If you’ve never used a pellet grill before, you may have questions about how exactly they heat up to cook your food. Here are the basics of the internal workings of a pellet grill:
- You set the internal temperature on the digital controller and it maintains it by managing the number of pellets in the firebox.
- When the controller senses a temperature drop, it will release more pellets from the hopper into the firebox by initiating a motor to turn the auger and move the pellets.
- Once in the firebox, the pellets will ignite and stay burning through the help of a combustion fan.
- There is a second fan located inside the pellet hopper that maintains positive pressure to prevent burn-back into the hopper.
- The two airflows from the fans meet, creating the perfect grilling conditions by circulating hardwood smoke throughout the grill.
